Tweed Heads aged care - caring for our community

We are a community-based and locally-controlled organisation. Being an inclusive, welcoming place has helped break down many barriers for us as community and as an aged care provider. Our goal is to provide Tweed Heads aged care and respite care that enables everyone who is able – your family, friends and loved ones – to stay in our community and remain in their own homes in preference to nursing home care.

The Canowindra Story

Just like your story matters, our story matters too. Cedric House was a dream of Mr Cedric Morgan and three other male members of the Aboriginal community who saw the great need for Tweed Heads aged care where all Australians, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people could access respite in our community. Other members of the community joined these founders and together they overcame many barriers to establish a respite cottage in our area of Tweed Heads.

Bugalah - a welcoming place

Our Cedric House respite facility is a home away from home. Our immaculately clean and tidy facility is looked after with great pride by our staff and management committee. Over the years we have welcomed many Australians, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander into our Tweed Heads aged care and respite, providing everyone who uses our service with the highest quality care and accommodation.

A dream realised

Canowindra Tweed Byron Aged & Disabled Corporation was established in May 1991 and we started providing community home care packages. When Cedric House respite cottage opened the same year, our founding members had all passed on. Inspired by their vision, we carried on and made one man’s dream a reality.

Our Tweed Heads aged care services at Canowindra provide a magnificent service in the community and maintain great rapport with mainstream services, hospitals, health centres and the entire local community. Uncle Cedric Morgan is never far from our thoughts; and his sister and wife still serve the organisation on the management committee as volunteers.

Our caring team

All our Tweed Heads aged care workers are all highly qualified and experienced in working for elderly people; but it’s their caring natures that makes our team truly special.
